Major update on the way for 'Rollercoaster: How a man can overcome his partner’s breast cancer'

If you’ve read 2015’s first edition, major changes should be instantly obvious in the second go-‘round of what’s been retitled as Rollercoaster: How a man can overcome his partner’s breast cancer or any other lethal disease.

The follow-up manuscript is currently in the hands of The Wonderlady, Ruth Schwartz, a book midwife who's sure it will be professionally readied for publication and sale throughout the world by spring.  

Schwartz’s hiring has been “a fail-safe action, a triple-check,” said I, Woody Weingarten, the book’s author and a lifelong journalist.

That’s because I’ve, indeed, updated “all of it,” after more than a year of intense research, rewriting, and fact checking, trailed by a helpful proof-reading by my son and caregiver, Mark.

Rollercoaster now includes several entirely new chapters pertaining to the cancer diagnoses and treatments of my wife, Nancy Fox, and how we coped with them. Like the rest of the book, they're a tribute to her and her courage.

One revised chapter details a truckload of new meds, and another explores multiple breakthrough treatments. A later section shows both agencies and books where help is available.

Anecdotes and humor are sprinkled throughout, to leaven the volume's heavy theme.

'MysteryDates®' wins publishers’ association award for best cover of a nonfiction book

MysteryDates®, a VitalityPress book that carries the subtitle “How to keep the sizzle in your relationship,” recently won a BAIPA contest for best nonfiction cover.

It’s the second time VitalityPress books illustrated by Joe Marciniak and written by me, Woody Weingarten, have won cover awards from the Bay Area Independent Publishers Association. The first time was for a whimsical children’s fantasy, Grampy and His Fairyzona Playmates, which was co-written by my granddaughter, Hannah Schifrin, when she was 8 years old.

 

MysteryDates is both a memoir and a travel guide with hundreds of tips on what to do, how to do it, and where to go — locally, nationally, globally.

‘Tis the season in which folks often focus on family and friends.
 

The Roving I, a mostly light-hearted book that was just released, does just that — focus on family and friends. But its 70 first-person columns also include some that feature serious stuff, and numerous humorous others that showcase overheard conversational tidbits and one-liners.

Children's fantasy by the author of 'Rollercoaster' and granddaughter is getting close to publication

Neither snow nor rain nor gloom of night, to borrow a phrase, can stop my writing. 

Nor can the coronavirus. 

Although Covid-19 has caused a major delay in the publication of "MysteryDates," which may not find its audience for another year or so, it won't be able to stop the public from seeing "Grampy and His Fairyzona Playmates," a children's fantasy co-written by me, Woody Weingarten, and my granddaughter, Hannah Schifrin.

The collaborative effort — about a wizard, his fairy grandaughter and her fairy best friend will be published any month now, even though we're Sheltering in Place just north of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Pre-publication details, as they say, are rapidly being ironed out — and are entering the proverbial homestretch.

Also in the offing (a little further down the 2020 road) is "The Roving I," a compilation of columns I'd penned over an 11-year period.
